Needless to say I have been incredibly busy, but very soon things will be slowing down and I will be able to give you a proper recap. To hold you over, here are a few things I have been busy with during the past 2 months:

"The Great American Novel"

-What Mom called this post, after I told her how long it is

So it has been a while, huh?

This summer I went to a few great converts- Incubus, 311, Justin Timberlake (my friend won tickets on the radio!!), and a dj called GirlTalk. They were all a great time, a nice way to get away from the city for even just a few hours. This weekend my school is having a music festival in one of our quads, the band brand new is playing along with some local bands- my student group is going to be putting on a bbq before the show!

The new apartment is not even close to being unpacked, but what more do you expect from me :) It really feels like my first 'real' apartment- the train runs by every 15 minutes right outside my window, no dishwasher, no ac, the occasional cockroach... but I love it regardless! I am living with my roommate from last year, along with another one of my friends and a random girl who was placed with us-- much better than freshman year, for sure!

Work has been going well, I finally feel like I really know what I am doing with everything! Next Wednesday is the first seminar I have worked on from start to finish- so much work goes into them! I am going to be super busy until late October- our last seminar is on Oct 25th, the day after my birthday! We have 17 in the meantime, though, so lots of work ahead. In case you were wondering what exactly I do for these conferences- i make the invitation and website with our graphic designers, coordinate the printing and mailing of the invites, along with electronic copies, make and print signage, work with another girl in my group in putting together presentations that the investors come up with, work with the hotels to reserve space and plan the food, help decide gifts, put together booklets that have all of the presentations in them, ship everything, coordinate logistics with people in our global offices on the actual seminar planning, and finally, after it is all done, get to analyze all of the feedback that we get! It sounds like a lot, but there is a small group of us (4 total) that share these responsibilities to some extent, so we all have a hand in everything. Needless to say we have been very busy, but it has been great so far!

As for school, I am the assistant vice president in the resident student association(RSA), a group that puts on lots of programs for the entire campus to enjoy-- this is the group putting on the bbq this weekend. It should be a lot of fun! I have also decided to join student government association, its more about school and a little more work, but i still enjoy it a lot- i have been working on improving our health center (something i unfortunately know far too much about by now), a presentation to our board on gender-neutral housing, and marketing for the group. I have been joking around that i am 'graduating' from rsa to sga because it is so much more formal. It all sounds like a lot, but i find it all rewarding so it doesn't seem like work most of the time-- besides, once i get home from coop i have nothing to do!

Not too much else is new- for those who have been following the trials and tribulations of my back, it is feeling a bit better, so keep your fingers crossed! I have also been meeting a lot of new people and making new friends, as always :)

Sorry for the wait on this update, i was waiting for pictures but i still haven't uploaded them, so sometime soon I will have a nice post with all pictures, but that is whats new from Boston!

Work has been keeping me busy, obviously, but it has been going well. I have learned most of my day-to-day responsibilities, such as updating the seminar website, making seminar materials, and planning future seminars. The interesting part has come in the side projects I am beginning to receive- I made a seminars & programs newsletter, which I was frustrated about because of the slow turnaround time my group had with edits, and 11th hour changes to the content, but this morning it was sent out to the entire firm (!) and everyone complimented me, saying that i had gotten the newsletter out the fastest they had ever seen. I have also been doing things such as throwing a party for the director of marketing and data analysis tracking views of our media presentations. By far, the projects are the most interesting part and I have already learned so much just from being exposed to the work that I have to do.

So what am I doing with all of my free time, you may ask? Well Friday night I went to Harvard Hogwarts Square to pick up the new Harry Potter book! It was a lot of fun, there were HP themed bands playing, "magical" food at the restaurants, and of course a 1 1/2 hour line to get the book at midnight! I did not get to have a marathon reading session as I had to work at the restaurant all weekend, but I finished all 750ish pages last night- it was amazing. I can't think of a better way to end the series.

So in a nutshell... that is whats news from Boston!

Brad and myself at Hogwarts Square, at 1:30 am, with our books! We were trying to get the clock from the Cambridge Savings bank in the background, but clearly that didn't work

4th of July

Orientation was pretty standard, nothing too out of the ordinary to report there. I have made some friends out of our group of coops, we all go and get lunch together every day- it is definitely a nice break to go have lunch with some fellow college kids after being in an office for 5 hours ;)

I got out of work early on Tuesday to start the holiday early, so I went for a run by the river and stopped to hear the Boston Pops rehearsal for the big show in the 4th. It was great to hear the music without the fireworks, but that is to come later. The 4th was relatively relaxing, went to dinner with some friends then went to the river with a few of my friends from BC and had a great spot right on the bank of the river. The fireworks were absolutely amazing- hopefully the pictures do it some justice!

First (official) day!

Tomorrow if my first official day at Wellington! Granted, I started officially two weeks ago, but tomorrow is my orientation and I get to meet all of my fellow co-ops. So far I am really enjoying my job. It has its share of busy work and materials prep like any intern is going to have to do, but the other side which I am getting into right now is very interesting. I am working with the electronic production group (graphic and web designers) to make the 'theme' and all of the materials (website, invitations, presentations, etc) for our upcoming seminars in Australia and Asia. I am also working with my boss on researching who we want from our company to put on presentations and once we have confirmed with them, we will be helping them develop their presentations. It is mainly a marketing position, but already I have had a lot of exposure to finance which I am really glad to have the opportunity to experience working for such a prestigious company.

As for the juicy 'new job' details, I have my own little cubicle and email for the next 6 months. I have to wear a suit every day, and I have already had business lunches with 'colleagues' (aka my friends who are also on co-op). The culture at Wellington is great- it is a very horizontal hierarchy/structure- basically there are 3 managing partners, 7 department heads, then all of the groups that make up well, everything. We have an open door policy, which means no names on offices, which caused me to get lost a lot in my first few weeks, but it has also led me to meeting one of the managing partners (already!)and the head of the marketing department. The best way to describe it was something that I was told during my interview with them- "We take our work seriously, but we don't take ourselves seriously". In my first two weeks I have worked hard and already learned a lot and I already feel at home in my new position!

Taken from the Quincy Market area, the building I work in- 75 State St is the second building from the left, the one with the gold detailing up at the top

I also started working at Panificio, a restaurant near the Charles River about a month ago. I am waitressing Saturday and Sunday mornings during brunch, talking to all of the tourists and eating lots of pastries that they bake there every morning- so good!

As for this whole blog- I figure if anyone is interested in what I am up to since I have run off to Boston, you can all check here and I will try to update it regularly. Hope everything is going well at home, I miss you all, and hopefully I will be home again before the end of the summer!
