First (official) day!

Tomorrow if my first official day at Wellington! Granted, I started officially two weeks ago, but tomorrow is my orientation and I get to meet all of my fellow co-ops. So far I am really enjoying my job. It has its share of busy work and materials prep like any intern is going to have to do, but the other side which I am getting into right now is very interesting. I am working with the electronic production group (graphic and web designers) to make the 'theme' and all of the materials (website, invitations, presentations, etc) for our upcoming seminars in Australia and Asia. I am also working with my boss on researching who we want from our company to put on presentations and once we have confirmed with them, we will be helping them develop their presentations. It is mainly a marketing position, but already I have had a lot of exposure to finance which I am really glad to have the opportunity to experience working for such a prestigious company.

As for the juicy 'new job' details, I have my own little cubicle and email for the next 6 months. I have to wear a suit every day, and I have already had business lunches with 'colleagues' (aka my friends who are also on co-op). The culture at Wellington is great- it is a very horizontal hierarchy/structure- basically there are 3 managing partners, 7 department heads, then all of the groups that make up well, everything. We have an open door policy, which means no names on offices, which caused me to get lost a lot in my first few weeks, but it has also led me to meeting one of the managing partners (already!)and the head of the marketing department. The best way to describe it was something that I was told during my interview with them- "We take our work seriously, but we don't take ourselves seriously". In my first two weeks I have worked hard and already learned a lot and I already feel at home in my new position!

I also started working at Panificio, a restaurant near the Charles River about a month ago. I am waitressing Saturday and Sunday mornings during brunch, talking to all of the tourists and eating lots of pastries that they bake there every morning- so good!

As for this whole blog- I figure if anyone is interested in what I am up to since I have run off to Boston, you can all check here and I will try to update it regularly. Hope everything is going well at home, I miss you all, and hopefully I will be home again before the end of the summer!
